The Bronze Age settlement of Papadiokampos is located in the coastal plain west of the Trachilos peninsula near Siteia in eastern Crete. It was discovered by Chrysa Sofianou of the 24th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of the Greek Ministry of Culture and is the focus of her ongoing research program. Assistant in mapping the Late Minoan harbor town has been provided by the Publication Team of the Institute for Aegean Prehistory Study Center for East Crete. Topographic mapping of the site has revealed building remains that stretch for approximately 250 m along the coast, the majority of which are situated several meters above sea level along the cliff.

Ground Penetrating Radar, or GPR, was systematically used in all four areas of the site before excavation (Areas A, B, C and D). It has proven instrumental in the location and identification of subsurface features, such as the ground plans of House A.1 at the western edge of the Late Minoan I settlement and House B.1 located 100 m to the east. In both cases, the subsurface features detected by the radar match precisely with the excavated finds. Equally important, excavation in Areas A, B and D proved that the voids observed by the radar were open spaces, thus eliminating the need for further excavation in those specific areas.

The focus of this dissertation is to present the results of four years' worth of geophysical surveying at four major archaeological sites in Greece and the benefits to the archaeological community. The ground penetrating radar offers an inexpensive, non-destructive solution to the problem of deciding how much of a site is worth excavating and which areas would yield the most promising results.

As the New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman said (Park, 2017), in this interdisciplinary society, motivation is highly needed because this world would be exciting for people who are motivated, but for people who are not motivated, this world would be challenging for them.

Students at the American University of Kuwait (AUK), Department of Art and Graphic Design, have different learning styles compared to students in the other regions such as the U.S.. What are the proper ways of motivating the students for success? Close observations to understand them better and customization of syllabi is necessary. Different audience, different solution. Plus, reflecting both on local culture and global trends is necessary to support their success in this globalized world. This paper is composed of seven case studies that the author has been working on with AUK students. The relatively successful executions
are collected in this paper.

One of the author’s students has been selected as a semi-finalist for the Adobe Design Achievement Awards in 2017, the leading global student design competition (Figure 1), and the news was covered by 7 local newspapers including the Kuwait Times. The author has always believed that students in this region have good artistic potential. How can a faculty motivate students and maximize their potential?

When you question how you can be more creative, you are actually questioning how to be more human. Each of us has unique natural characteristics, and that uniqueness is one of the key elements of being a human being. It is similar to a person’s identity. Uniqueness is highly valued when it comes to a creative outcome. In other words, knowing oneself better and thus being more human will help one produce more creative outcomes.

Drawing and writing in real time from inside the courtroom, artist and WikiLeaks activist Clark Stoeckley here captures first-hand the extraordinary drama of The United States vs. Private Chelsea Manning, one of the most important and secretive trials in American history.

In the course of the trial, Private Manning insists that her release of the Iraq and Afghanistan war logs to WikiLeaks was an act of conscience, justified by the urgent need to reveal to the world the atrocities committed by the US military in the ostensible cause of freedom. At the prosecution table, military lawyers for the American government seek to set an example and discourage future whistle-blowers by locking away Manning for decades, possibly the rest of her life.

Stoeckley’s vivid sketches from inside the court and beyond, together with carefully selected transcripts of the proceedings, trace the arguments as they move back and forth between the defense and the prosecution. His rendering of the trial provides both a vital record and a uniquely compelling read.
